Natural Remedies for Yeast Infections

There are many treatments available for yeast infections, but natural remedies for yeast infections are by far the best option. Why? Well, medications can sometimes be used, but they don't always work. If they do, it might only be for a short while.

The Problem with Medications

Medications have their place and are sometimes useful to get rid of first-time yeast infections or major yeast infections.

If you get a recurring yeast infection, you shouldn't use medication again because it means that you have a diet or health problem. If you use medication every time you are covering up a problem that needs to be fixed. You need to get rid of the yeast problem at it's core.

Two Forms of Natural Remedies for Yeast Infections

Natural remedies for yeast infections come in two forms. The first type of remedy is natural substances used to clear up the infection. The second type of remedy is actually changing your diet and your lifestyle to stop yeast infections from happening.

Obviously, the best long-term choice is to change your diet so that yeast infections are not easily manifested in your body.

Alkaline Diet

A diet consisting of mostly alkaline foods is a great way to rid yourself of yeast infection. Alkaline foods that you should eat include fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, and herbs. You should limit refined sugar, wheat products, and fats. Try drinking your water with a little bit of lemon in it, drinking herbal teas instead of coffee or black tea, and seasoning your foods with sea salt.

Yeast Free Diet

Another diet that people use to rid themselves of yeast and get rid of yeast infections once and for all is a yeast free diet. This is a diet that uses not products or foods that contain yeast. So, you would not eat yeast bread, crackers, and you would cut out most sweets.

This diet allows your body to stop feeding the yeast growth and will help your body to fight the yeast infection naturally, without the use of medications.

Garlic

Garlic can be consumed in certain quantities to help fight yeast infection. It can also be placed in or near the area where the yeast infection is thriving in order to cut down the infection. Garlic kills the yeast and therefore can help kill the yeast infection that is running rampant. Fresh, organic, garlic is the best to use.

If you don't like the idea of eating whole cloves of garlic or putting garlic on the affected area, you can also use a garlic supplement or cook foods with lots of garlic in them.

Salt Baths

Taking warm baths with salt added to the bath water can help soothe the affected area as well as offer some yeast killing properties. The two best kinds of salt to use are epsom salt or sea salt. About 1 cup of salt added to your bath should be sufficient.

Salt baths can also act as a laxative, helping to rid your body of toxins and waste so that you are better able to fight the infection.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar helps to alkalize the body quickly and fights yeast infections very well. It can be taken as a supplement as well as diluted and applied to the affected area.

If you are taking it as a supplement, dilute it with water and drink it quickly (the taste is not pleasant.) Generally, you can take about 1 teaspoon with 1 cup of water daily.

If you are going to apply it to the affected area, dilute it with water and poor it over the area or squirt it onto the area gently. Alternatively, you may add some apple cider vinegar to your bath water to soothe the area and help fight the infection. I'm sure you will find it to be an immediate relief of itching and discomfort.

  1. Yogurt too.  Eating a lot of it when your taking an antibiotic helps keep the yeast at bay.  Plus acidophiles tablets placed inside “the area” will kill it too.  It’s what my mid-wife recommends since pregnancy has a tendency to generate yeast infections.

    1. Thanks for the tip. I have taken probiotic tablets, mainly for thrush. But, i got similar advice from my nurse practitioner on treating thrush in my son’s mouth, to crush the tablets and coat his mouth with them.

Yogurt is great. I think it’s important to note that natural yogurt without too many added sweeteners works the best, and can also be applied to the area.

      Thanks for commenting!

  2. Yeast needs moist and dark to thrive. If you make sure the area is dry and then let a little sunshine hit the area affected. Or if that is not feasible a 100 watt bulb in a lamp held close to the affected area. Be very careful not to burn yourself. Of course eat your Garlic, yogurt, apple cider vinegar and I have also heard that alka seltzer helps. Genecin Violet is good for oral thrush, but it will stain every thing purple but it works.
