Using Baking Soda to Clean Naturally

Natural Cleaning Recipes for Home

One of the most fantastic cleaning solutions you have is actually in your kitchen cabinet. Baking soda can do much, from oral hygiene to cleaning your kitchen counters.

Here are a few ways to use baking soda to clean your home in a more green and natural way.

Bathroom Fixtures

Keep in mind that anytime you are cleaning with baking soda, it is a slightly abrasive compound. If you have sensitive vanities, avoid baking soda on these surfaces. Otherwise, you can use baking soda in the entire bathroom.

Sprinkle baking soda over your bathroom faucet and clean surfaces with a wet sponge in the sink. Rinse well. Do the same for the bathroom and shower.

Toilet

The toilet is a whole different scenario than other bathroom fixtures. Yes, baking soda can clean the toilet with baking soda, but it needs a bit extra due to its role in the house.

Take a little baking soda and mix with vinegar four times. Pour it into your toilet and use the brush to clean the sides. Let it sit for a few minutes before flushing.

Kitchen

You could clean your entire kitchen with just baking soda, vinegar, and lemon juice. Tough stains should be treated first with lemon juice and then scrubbed with baking soda—any item needing disinfecting needs vinegar added to the baking soda to neutralize the odors.

It is also great as an oven cleaner. Mix with water or vinegar to form a paste. Cover inside of the oven with the mixture while avoiding any burn elements. Let sit for 30 minutes to an hour and then scrub clean.

More Uses

  • Drains – Don't wait until you need a plumber to clean out your drains. Use baking soda sprinkled in your trough, followed by hot water or vinegar.
  • Carpet Cleaner – Sprinkle baking soda in your carpet and let it sit for 15 – 20 minutes. Vacuum up. No harsh chemicals.
  • Pet Bath – You don't have to buy expensive dog or cat shampoos. Just sprinkle baking soda on them and brush out after a few minutes. Any baking soda left in the fur will continue to neutralize smells.

With baking soda, you can rest assured that it is safe for your family and your pets. It won't harm you if digested (as long as it is not the whole box), and it continues to work long after you clean.

Your health and your family's health are affected by the cleaning products you use. Can you name what's in all the products on the grocery shelves?

Baking soda is safe and natural. Try using it and see how much better you will know that you are creating a healthier environment for your family.
