There’s a lot to think about before you apply to college. What program are you interested in? What college will provide the best experience? How much will it cost to achieve your higher education dreams? That’s a lot of life decisions to make in one go!
However, if you have absolutely no idea what you want to do with your life, the idea of applying to college is probably overwhelming. You know you want to experience the lifestyle, and train for a career, but you just don’t know what any of that will really mean.
We can help you decide. If you’re stuck on deciding what course you’re even interested in, never mind anything else, the three points below could be beneficial.
What Makes You Feel Good?
For some people this is helping others, which can be a very rewarding and satisfying thing. If that’s the case for you, it may be worth considering applying to Kino College and getting a medical degree. This will allow you to train for a career where helping people is part of your day to day.
For others it may be helping animals, or preserving the natural environment, or working with children – all of which could make a person fit for becoming a vet, an agriculture consultant, or a teacher.
What Skills are You Interested in Refining?
We all have our own skillsets, even before we go to college and earn a degree, or even enter the world of work for things to put on our resumes. Think about this before you apply to a college; what skills are you interested in taking to the next level?
This is about considering what you enjoy doing, but also what you feel you already excel at. If you can add some educational polish to what you feel strong in, you could form a very good career off of the back of it.
Would it Be Best to Take a Gap Year?
If you really can’t decide on your plan for the future, don’t rush yourself. Take some time off to think about what you want and where you’d like to go, and only then apply to a college.
Whether this is a full year like we suggest, or you’d like to just have a few more months to figure some things out and/or gain some experience, feel free to give this method a try. A lot of people like to use this time to travel and see the world, while others like to get stuck into work and see what it’s like to have a full time job.
Either way, you can learn a lot about yourself when you try out an adventure like this – and you don’t have to sacrifice going to college to gain this insight.
If you’re not sure what to do with your life, don’t jump at the chance right now. Take your time to decide what’s right for you, and use the questions above to help.
