We can’t be happy 100% of the time. Anyone who has watched the Pixar film Inside Out will know that feeling sad, angry, jealous and so on is unavoidable 24/7. And trying to suppress negative feelings will only make you feel worse.
However, for the most part, trying to remain positive is something that can help us thrive when we’re happy and pick us up when we’re feeling sad. So to grab your slice of positivity, here are 6 ways for you to try.
Be More Grateful
There are moments now, and then that sparks us to feel grateful. Whether you see a homeless person on the street or know someone who is suffering from a severe illness, you realize that you have a lot to be thankful for.
But your gratitude shouldn’t just be limited to these moments. Gratitude should be practiced every day to help you stay positive. It reminds you that when things get tough, that in comparison, you have a lot more to be thankful for than sad about.
Kindness and Generosity
If you want to become more positive, think about others and not just you. Becoming too self-absorbed means that you only really begin to help someone if you think it can help you. When actually there’s much more joy and positivity to be had in your life if you are kind and generous to others just for the sake of it.
Find role models who live by these values, such as Cynthia Telles, to give you the inspiration and courage to thrive by giving back to your friends, family, and community.
Smile and Laugh
It may appear near impossible in some situations to crack a smile, but if you can do, do it! And maybe add some laughter int here too. Sometimes things get so bad in your life, that if you don’t laugh, you’ll cry. So choose laughter. And if you’re not feeling up to it, watch a comedy that may tickle you and distract you even momentarily to add a spot of positivity and hope back into your life.
Get Rid Of Toxic People
Emotional vampires, abusers, and users are the worst! They make you feel bad about yourself, inferior or ashamed. So why not get rid of them? Surely it’s better to be on your own finding people who are kind to you rather than hanging around horrible people.
Everyone has their ups and downs, but that doesn’t mean you should settle for bad friends who treat you poorly because of it. Throw out toxic people, and positivity shall be much easier to come by.
Bad Habits Need To Go
As with negative people, another thing that doesn’t serve you well is terrible habits! Whether binge drinking, overeating or overspending or spending way too much time comparing yourself to people on Instagram.
This shall all only lead to you feeling down about yourself. Although its easier said than done, rather than kicking your habits all at once, start with one! Instead of social media, if you’re single go on a date! Instead of overeating, go to the gym! There are changes you can make, you just need to start somewhere.
If you’re sick of ruminating negative thoughts, or you want to change your life for the better, focusing your changes around helping you to think more positively is a great way to start!
