Should You Move Home Before or After Having a Baby?

Having a child is a huge responsibility that often requires you to have a larger home for them to grow up in. You don’t want to be living in a 1-bedroom apartment with your child as they’ll need their own privacy and space to flourish. But should you be moving before or after you have your baby? There are actually a couple of arguments for both and here’s some information to help you out.

Moving before your baby is born

First, let’s take a look at the advantages of moving before your baby is born.

You don’t need to look after your child while moving. This is a huge benefit because your baby will demand a lot of time and attention.

Organizing and decluttering is easier if your baby isn’t born yet. It’s a lot easier to organize rooms and remove clutter from your new home if your baby isn’t born yet. It might be a little more difficult when you’re several months pregnant, but it does mean that you won’t need to worry about a crying child while you’re cleaning up rooms.

Fewer items to move when you find a new home. Moving before your baby is born means that you have fewer things to move with you. Things like a crib, a stroller and other furniture items can be bulky and extra weight that makes moving a little more difficult and time-consuming.

You can plan the perfect baby room in your new home. Being able to move before your baby is born means you have more time to design the perfect room for them. This is a great opportunity to arrange all of the furniture and design elements to create a comfortable and relaxing environment for your baby.

Moving after your baby is born

Now we’ll look at the advantages of moving after your baby is born.

You’ll have more time to decide on a home. Moving before your baby is born means having a time limit on the entire process. If you wait until after your baby is born, there’s no rush because you’re not trying to get everything done before they’re born. You’ll also be able to make use of tools like MortgageCalculator.Org to help you find a better deal for a new home.

You can ask for help from visitors that want to congratulate you on your baby. You’ll likely get a few family and friends visiting you to congratulate you on your baby. If you move home after your baby is born, this means you could get some help from these people such as assistance moving boxes or unpacking things.

You can put all of the baby shower gifts to use. Baby showers can end up giving you a lot of random gifts to help with raising your baby. You can put all of these gifts to use when you move and you won’t need to worry about moving with them.

You’ll be less inclined to speed through the moving process. If you try to move home before your baby is born then you’re essentially giving yourself a time limit. This can be daunting so it’s often best to wait until your child is born first. This also makes it easier to save for your first family home since you’ll have more time to build a larger deposit.

Is there a best choice?

In reality, there’s no real best choice. It all depends on your personal circumstances and situation, so it’s best to look carefully at your needs and decide based on the advice we’ve offered.
