14 Ways to Freshen Your Home Naturally

1.) Natural cedar balls and sticks can reduce moisture and repel moths from clothing, as well as act as a natural deodorizer. You can find a selection of cedar products in the department store laundry aisle.

2.) Make your own air freshener spray by combining 1 cup of distilled water and 8-10 drops of essential oils of your choice. Popular oils include bergamot, lemon, cedarwood, orange, lavender, and rose.

3.) Simmer some goodies in water on your stove, such as cinnamon sticks or whole cloves. Bring the water and spice to a boil, then reduce to a low simmer. Your home will smell like you've been baking goodies all day.

4.) Use natural deodorizers such as vinegar or baking soda in your laundry or in a spray bottle. Sprinkle baking soda on the carpet and let it sit for a few minutes before you vacuum. Keep a box of baking soda in your refrigerator to soak in smells.

5.) Bath salts can be soaked in essential oils, placed in an open jar or dish, and used as a natural scent bowl in any room.

6.) Bake something fragrant! Your favorite baked goodies will have your house smelling divine for hours. Try heirloom pumpkin and raisin yeast bread.

7.) Get rid of the source of the smell. Take the trash out, do the dishes, wash the laundry, and empty the litter box. It's easier to get rid of the smell than to cover it up.

8.) Soak a cotton ball in your favorite essential oil and drop it in the bottom of each new trash bag. This will buy you a little more time in between trash days.

9.) Use your garbage disposal to freshen your home. Drop in some lemon or orange peel and turn it on. Your kitchen will be smelling fresh in no time.

10.) Spray your bathroom light with your favorite natural perfume. Every time you turn on the light, your bathroom will be filled with the scent.

11.) Melt some scented soy wax in a wax warmer. Both the warmers and the scented wax are available in department stores, or companies like Scentsy.

12.) Make your own DIY Reed Diffuser with essential oils. All of the things you need to make these natural air fresheners can be found in most grocery stores.

13.) The next time you go to the store, pick up some fresh flowers to make your home smell pretty.

14.) House plants clean the air in your home and can help keep odors at bay. Just make sure you check if a house plant could be poisonous to pets or children.

I currently recommend Mountain Rose Herbs or Plant Therapy.
