Cleaning for Family Gatherings

The holidays are coming up fast. This means lots of parties and family gatherings. This means hours spent cooking and cleaning. Believe it or not, if natural health is important to you it extends to having guests over.

Guest Allergies

If you’re going to have guests, think of the allergies that they could have. The reality is that anything can cause allergies. Do you have pets? Those can cause allergies. It doesn’t have to be just cats and dogs. Birds can cause allergies. The ideal situation is to remove the pets completely, but the reality is that is not always possible or desirable. The next best thing is to clean completely and sterilize the areas right before guests arrive.

Mold can be everywhere. It’s not just in the bathroom and the fridge. It can be found on the wall behind the sink or under the bathroom sink. When you clean for the get together, you want to clean everywhere. Clean above the refrigerator. Clean under the sink. Clean the inside of the cabinets. Clean the walls. Look behind things and between them. Scrub it completely.

Dust should be addressed the same as the mold. It lands everywhere. The more you live in a place, the more you ignore stuff. You get used to things such as dust on the windowsill. It is unattractive, dirty, and irritates allergies.

Cleaning Supplies

Take your cleaning to a whole new level by using more green friendly cleaning supplies. There are many commercial ones that claim to be green and healthy for your home. Read these carefully. Not all are what they claim to be. The safest way to go is to use baking soda, vinegar, lemon juice, and bleach. Not all at the same time, mind you, but they are some of your most powerful and healthy cleaning agents.

Clean Air

You may clean and you may dust extremely well, but the very air you breathe could be hazardous to your health. Those pets still produce hair and dandruff. The mold is trying to find a new home. The dust is ever present. You need to get your air clean.

Good air purifiers help get rooms clean and the air breathable. Adding extra plants help keep the air pure. If the weather is nice, open up the windows and allow fresh air in.

If you need to light candles or use potpourri, use light fresh scents. Heavy scents can cause allergies. Many are allergic to eucalyptus which is used in many floral and scent pieces. Try to use more natural scents such as vanilla, apply, or light floral. You never want the smell to be over-powering.

Your health is not just within your own body. It’s all around you. This means that if affects your guests. Have a healthy holiday season by making your home more healthy for you, your family, and all your guests.
